6005 Taiwan's Traditrional Architecture postage stamps (Issue of 1999)

Since 1995, the Directorate General of Posts has issued several well-received sets of stamps featuring structural elements of traditional Taiwanese architecture: "roof ridges," "roof trusses," "house walls," and "platforms." Now the Directorate is releasing a set about decorative aspects of Taiwan's traditional architecture, which both affect the outer appearance and inner spirit of buildings, making them more attractive and lively. Decoration is the essence of architectural aesthetics. To provide a systematic introduction to traditional Taiwanese culture, for the newest set of stamps in its architectural series, the Directorate has chosen close-ups of four unique decorative features of Taiwanese architecture: "hanging cylinders," "taishi screens," xuanyu" (decorative elements on gables) and "wood carvings." Two of the stamps will have face values of NT$5.00, and the others will be valued at NT$10.00
